You can’t beat the beach for an engagement session but not all beaches are built the same. Not that you asked for me to compare my favorite beaches to photograph but here we go. Clearwater beach may rank highest for beaches in Florida but it ranks lowest for beaches to have your session at in my books. As one of the most popular tourists destinations in Florida it’s always packed. A photographer’s worst nightmare for a session. Not only do you have a lot of people watching you, which some clients may feel uncomfortable with, you’ll be stopping every 5 seconds to let people walk by. It’s a crowded mess and for those reasons I will convince you to take pictures at literally any other beach. My second favorite beach is Madeira Beach. It’s never crowded, there’s ample parking, and it’s just a lovely stretch of beach to capture your memories on. Now the top spot belongs to a Pass-a-Grille beach engagement session. Pass-a-Grille beach is a favorite of mine for the versatility of the location. When you photograph at the beach it’s usually just the sand and the water which doesn’t give you much variety in your photos. One of the main reasons I always suggest a park like Picnic Island Park or Cypress Point Park is because you can still get the water and the sunset but with the addition of other natural landscapes as well. However a Pass-a-Grille engagement session offers a variety of options which is why it’s my number one favorite beach to shoot at. Between the rocks, sea grape trees, boardwalk, and beachgrass in addition to the sand and ocean you can’t go wrong. As you’ll see all these elements highlighted in the photos below it also helps to have an amazing couple like Chelsea and Tim to photograph. I couldn’t get enough of these two!
